Second Half of the Year – How Are You Finishing the Year?
Depending on how far you are with your goals and plans, you are either pressing in to ensure you finish the year strong, or you are starting to feel discouraged, wondering if this is even your year. However, how the year turns out is dependent on where you are spiritually and which season you are in.
I’m a vision-board type of girl. I put together a 12-month vision plan instead of a two-year plan. This year however, I was determined that most of the things I wanted to accomplish, both spiritually and physically, would be determined by how far I was willing to go on both sides.
One of the major things God spoke to me about late last year, which I have intentionally incorporated into my day-to-day life, is inquiring of the Lord. Instead of assuming that because something is good, it must be from God, I inquire. Even if it is good, should I pursue this or not? And then I take it from there.
As I stepped into the second part of 2026, despite seeing the growth and advancement I have made in my life, I realised that I have slacked in some areas. There are parts of my life where I haven’t fully surrendered to God, allowing Him to take the lead and guide me through them.
The things that have been achieved and marked off the vision board had very little to do with what I have done and everything to do with my posture before God.
So, as we enter the second half of the year, I have been asking myself a few questions.
- How is your posture?
When I was growing up, I developed a habit of slouching. I remember walking with my mom and her constantly reminding me to straighten my shoulders and walk like the lady I am. Despite still slouching every now and again, I now find myself calling myself out, “straighten your back. Get your posture right”.
One of the reasons my mother would correct my posture was because slouching made me look tired, sad and almost as though I didn’t want to be there.
As I grow in my walk with God, I realise that our spiritual posture matters too when we approach Him. One of the hardest things to do is approach God when I have sinned. Not only am I reminded that I am not perfect, but I am also confronted with how much my “righteous religion” can convince ME that He and I are good.
Yet when I stumble and He shows me where I have gone wrong, all I can do in those moments is surrender the pride that has been developing in me. These are the moments when I have to get my posture right. Yes, I am God’s girl. Yes, He loves me so much. But I need Him every day.
I can read my Bible every day. I can fast monthly. But I am not righteous because I do those things. I am righteous because I give Him room to work through me and in me, every day.
So, as you begin your reflections for the second half of the year, examine your posture towards Him.
Are your shoulders slouched in prayer? Have you turned your back on Him?
Are your eyes fixed on heaven, or have they become fixed on the disorderly priorities you have made idols in your life?
Only you can answer those questions.
- Are you resting or are you lazy?
I watched a reel a few days ago of a podcast guest talking about how we often feel guilty when we rest, yet God Himself rested on the seventh day.
Rest is not a sign that we are failing. It is a principle that reminds us not to become so focused on building that we forget to allow God to pour into us, so that we can build the way He desires us to build.
But there is a difference between rest and procrastination.
Resting in God does not mean abandoning the healthy habits you ought to be following through on. It doesn’t mean consuming all types of junk food, meaninglessly scrolling through social media or neglecting your responsibilities in the name of rest. Sometimes, you have to be honest with yourself.
You sleep a lot.
You put things off.
You have allowed the wrong things to take up your time and become your priority.
And perhaps, if you are honest, you don’t want to sacrifice even a little bit of your comfort to build what God has placed before you.
Real rest should leave you restored, not further behind.
So, rest when you need to. Pause. Thank God for what has been completed. Reflect. Allow Him to pour back into you. But when it is time to work, work.
- Move!
Get moving. I’m there with you on this one, because I have also fallen guilty of waiting until it becomes a disobedience!
You plan too much.
You wait too long.
You want everything to be perfect before you start executing.
But sometimes, moving and figuring it out along the way is exactly what needs to happen to get you going. I recently heard Apostle Tobi Arayomi say:
“Intellect is the biggest enemy of intuition. God is not feeling sorry for you because you are afraid. Esau missed the blessing because he was passive. You need to get moving. God didn’t reveal everything to Abraham all at once. He said, “Go to a land that I will show you.” What He meant is – go, and as you go, you will discover!”
There is something about what he said that really challenged me. God did not give Abraham the entire map. He gave him an instruction. Go.
And as he went, he discovered.
Sometimes, we are waiting for God to reveal the entire journey before we take the first step. But perhaps the revelation is the movement. Perhaps you will discover what you need to know as you go.
So, move.
Start the thing.
Make the call.
Write the proposal.
Have the conversation.
Take the step.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin.
How we finish the year is, to some degree, is up to us. Whether we need to advance physically or spiritually, we have been given time to do what we ought to do.
For this second half of the year, I pray that God gives you the spirit of discernment to know what you need to be busy with, and if it is a season of waiting, I pray that you know how to wait.
God exists outside of time, yet He has placed us on earth to rule and take dominion, including over how we spend the time we have been given here.
He is also merciful enough to redeem the hours we have lost, but you need to get up.
Inquire of Him.
Get on the journey.
Rest where you need to.
Make the sacrifices that will benefit generations after you.
And keep moving.
